The thought of seeing tiny grapes turn into delicious bottles of fine wine, makes me hungry.

I photographed glimpses of this process for Bodega Rancho, a specialty vintner near Bodega Bay California.

Its always rewarding to work with the natural processes, like juice growing over time. If these particular grapes are anything like last seasons bounty, I’m really looking forward to a glass or two…

In 1997, sixty years after the Golden Gate Bridge opened, I began photographing the structure and its surroundings.

Since then, I have stood with the giant connector for brief visits. Improvisational moments over time.

Its a place of incredible visual beauty and power, a deep testament to human achievement. I like the metaphor of building bridges, it’s a natural answer for some of today’s pivotal questions. This passageway expands a common good and nurtures communities.

Its a work of art, that stands sentinel as the gateway to better days for millions of people…

I look at its rivets and scars, the layered coats of thick red paint, worn thin by fierce winds and driving rains. The dance between storms to constantly replace and repaint. The faces of pedestrians and bicyclists, of car passengers, all in amazement. As though each is the only one around, with their bridge.

I think of the souls who requested it become more than just an idea. All the designers, suppliers and those who built and have maintained this huge plank between communities and commerce.

They, as I; must surely share the awe. This series in mid flow, more to come…
